The Different Types Of Lawyers
Today, we can find all types of lawyers to answer whatever legal need we come across with. If you are looking for a specific kind of lawyer or if you are considering a carer in law, here are some of the types of lawyers that we have today to help you out.
1. Asbestos Lawyer
Asbestos lawyers or Mesothelioma lawyers, are those lawyers who represent clients experiencing health problems which resulted from the inhalation of minute asbestos particles. Such clients would include any individual who has been under some level of exposure to small asbestos particles, like those people who have worked or have lived around asbestos. A few examples would be construction and office workers, school children who go to schools that have been constructed with the use of asbestos-containing building materials, as well as those who live in apartment that are considered as toxic buildings.
2. Assault Lawyer
Assault lawyers would be those lawyers who handle various criminal as well as civil assault cases. Criminal assault lawyers or criminal defense lawyers would be those who defend individuals who have been charged with some kind of criminal assault. Civil assault lawyers or personal injury lawyers represent victims of assault and battery so that they would be able to recover the damage for the physical injuries that resulted from the crime.
3. Car Accident Lawyer
If you are the victim of some kind of hit-and-run accident, or have been involved in a vehicle collision, a pedestrian accident or an alcohol or a drug-related incident, a car accident lawyer would be just what you need. This particular type of lawyer would be able to ensure that you would be receiving a fair treatment and compensation from insurance companies and assisting you in the recovery of everything that you are entitles to such as lost wages, pain, sufferring, medical bills, as well as property damages.

If you are in a stage in your life where you are considering filing bankruptcy, a competent bankruptcy lawyer would be able to help you out. He or she would be helping you to evaluate your situation, the available options as well as the best course of action to take before actually filing for it.

This type of lawyer actually has a rather difficult job as he or she represents those individuals who have been accused of a crime, as they make sure that there would be a just trial given to the defendant or to their client.

The above are a few of the common lawyers that people hire on an everyday basis. I would say these are the lawyers that make a major portion of the legal market. There are a few others, which I will cover in a later article.

Stanford law School is at least one academic institution that remain confident that their students will get jobs. “Law Shucks,” a blog that tracks the legal industry, estimates that major law firms laid off over 4,000 lawyers in 2009. But SLS law school Dean Larry Kramer said that while the job market is “tighter” now than it has been, new lawyers will still find it welcoming, according to a report from the Stanford Daily.
“The same bubble existed in the legal market as in the rest of the economy,” Kramer said. “Students graduating this year and maybe next year have to deal with the fallout from that. But I don’t foresee any long-term significant changes in professional prospects for being a lawyer.” In terms of finding employment, new graduates from SLS have been insulated from the effects of the recession so far, according to the school.
Kiwi legal job recruiter Damian Hanna wrote in his law recruitment blog about the strange world for recruiters at present. Tell us about it! But there’s some light out there, says Damian:
“There is definitely more of a sense of optimism around and for the first time in quite a while, there have even been a number of options for junior lawyers. I have recently met quite a few younger lawyers who, after sticking things out for the annus horribilus that has been 2009, have said ’stuff this, I’m off to London’.
“Whether it is the onset of summer, the prospect of a new year which will hopefully bring a new beginning or just people being fed up with being pessimistic about things, it seems that the tide has turned and to borrow a phrase from one of Ireland’s most over-rated performers D:REAM – “things can only get better.”
“So with this in mind, I opened up the latest edition of (the very good) NZ lawyer magazine to see who was advertising, only to find a total of 3 job advertisements in the whole edition. Back in the heady days of 2006 and 2007, there probably would have been 20-30 and it seemed as if the whole publication was one big recruitment fest with some articles thrown in to break up the ads.
“Historically, Seek would have 300-400 legal jobs. As I sit here now, it has 223 legal jobs in NZ, quite a number of which are different agencies advertising the same job. (Yes, we do do that!)
“So where is the truth? Is it getting better or worse?
“My opinion, which I’ve outlined in earlier posts, is that the worst is behind us. I believe that people will start moving jobs, if only because they are sick, sore and tired of what they are currently doing. This will create some fluidity in the market which will result in the current stagnant market unraveling somewhat. Hopefully in conjunction with this, the law firms will feel confident enough to start making some positive hiring decisions and will be considering how they should be staffing up in anticipation of the wave of people who will leave these shores when the overseas markets pick up.”

Alternative legal Career in Environmental ___________ ?
I am seeking the ideal alternative legal career. I graduated law school last May, sat for and passed the NY and CT bar exams in July. I tried for about 6 months to land a job in Environmental Law here in NYC, but found the process fruitless. Now I am working at a small personal injury firm to pay the bills, but badly want to work on environmental issues.
I also have a B.A. in environmental studies from college. I wish i went for the B.S.
I want to work advancing environmental objectives, whether it be (for example) working for an alternative energy company, doing policy lobbying, or something completely different. I do not want to limit myself to traditional legal work, but i want something that will allow m to use the skills that i have cultivated.
Please advise me if you have any thoughts, insights, experience, or are just well informed.

We all have those friends that we love to hate. You know the ones I’m talking about – the friends that Lady Luck always seems to shine upon. They can do no wrong, and they have a great career, a great family, and a great life in general. Happiness just seems attracted to them like a magnet.Have you ever considered that happiness doesn’t just seem attracted to these people – that maybe happiness really is attracted to them like a magnet? That’s the theory behind the law of attraction. With the right outlook, manifesting happiness is fairly easy!
A History of Karma
The ideas behind the law of attraction aren’t new. In fact, ancient Indian scriptures from thousands of years ago talk about using the law of attraction for manifesting luck in life. However, this concept has only recently played a larger role in our everyday lives. Unfortunately, most people don’t know about or understand the law of attraction, and because of that, the only things that manifest in their lives are stress and unhappiness.
If you’ve ever heard the saying “what goes around comes around,” then you can understand the concept behind the law of attraction. This is exactly like the concept of karma. However, let us modify that statement to be “what you think comes around.” The law of attraction is based on the model that like attracts like – sort of the way two magnets are attracted to one another. Using this idea, you can create the things you want in life simply by thinking about them. Yes, the law of attraction really is that easy!
Real Scientific Roots
This isn’t a bag of tricks, either. There are very real scientific roots behind using thought for manifesting the things you want in life. Think about it. Why do magnets attract one another? On a cellular level, the magnets simply connect. Why can’t the same be true about our thoughts and feelings? Using the law of attraction, why can’t we think about the good things we want in life as a way of helping to connect to them? After all, thoughts are energy. They are real, even if we can’t see them. So, why can’t we use them like magnets?
Manifesting this energy starts with visualization. The law of attraction starts with understanding what you want. This is so that you have a real sense of imagining what you should visualize. Otherwise, the magnetic strength of your thoughts will be very weak and not that effective. What do you want in life? Most of us know when we are unhappy, but few of us can see the big picture. I’m not just talking about having a bad day. Overall, if your life is unhappy, why? Do you want more money? A better love life? A career that you love? Manifesting these things isn’t possible if you don’t know where to start. Always begin by taking a full inventory of your life and truly being honest about how you’d like the law of attraction to work for you.
Once you know exactly what you want, it is simply a matter of belief. Ask the universe for what you want. Visualize it to the point where you can reach out and grab it. Then, act as though what you want is already in your life. Manifesting is all about belief. Here are some great tips you can use to make the most out of your visualizations:
Visualize Every Single Day
Visualize every single day. Intense visualization sessions can help the law of attraction bring what you desire to you. Spend time every morning or every night (or both, if you can), thinking about what you want and believing that you will get it.
Visualize the specific. Manifesting works best if you send out thoughts and feelings about exactly what you want. Say, for example, that you want to find the man or woman of your dreams. Think about what he or she will look like. Think about the characteristics he or she will have. Visualize specific details of what you’d do together and how you’d fall in love.
Be open to the law of attraction. Visualization isn’t enough for manifesting your dreams. You have to believe that what you want will come to you. Be open to receiving it, even if it comes to you in unconventional ways. Always be on the look out for the things you’re visualizing.
Send out strong signals. If you don’t really want something, your signals will be weak. In other words, you’ll have a weak magnet, like the worn out magnets that always fall off of the refrigerator. You have to want your goal with all of your soul.
Never Give Up
Manifesting the thing you want could take weeks, months, or even years! It depends on the rest of the universe. The magnets of the law of attraction are pulling everything in all directions. However, over time, sending out the same signals will help you overcome all other pulls so that what you really want comes to you.
Remember, the law of attraction is not something you can half-hope will work. To really make use of this tool, you have to believe with full force that the things you want in life will come to you. The law of attraction can truly help you become that person everyone envies – the one will all of the luck!

In Imperial Valley and throughout California where private employers and government offices have laid off people in the hundreds and thousands, sometimes on a weekly basis there is substantial fear among those who have recently been terminated and those who are in fear that they could be next to be let go. In areas such as the Imperial Valley area where unemployment and foreclosures are at their highest in the state, many employees who have been discriminated against or fired in retaliation for complaints of harassment and who previously feared making any complaint, now feel they have nothing to lose.
Some employees are filing class action lawsuits based on everything from age and sex discrimination to discrimination against veterans. Individual claims are being made for overtime pay that the employees never received and retaliation for whistle blowing or reporting harassment.
One of the best tools for Imperial Valley employment lawyers is often the employee’s company manual and other memos of the company which often lay out glowing descriptions of how fair the company will be in their employment practices. Such manuals often describe all of the types of actions which the company claims they will not tolerate including the various forms of harassment and how the company will never take a retaliatory action against anyone blowing the whistle on harassment at the company.
Such manuals provide a powerful tool to the employee and the employment lawyer to show the company exactly how they violated not only the law, but also the company’s own employment guidelines. Faced with such violations of the principles the company itself laid down and promised to their employees, it is difficult for such companies to argue that they didn’t realize how they were supposed to respond to an employee’s reports of harassment or that they didn’t know they couldn’t fire someone for making such reports.
Employees must keep in mind that under California law, complaints alleging discrimination or retaliation must be filed with the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement in California within six months of the alleged discriminatory or retaliatory action by an employer, except in certain circumstances.
Some of the laws enforced by the Labor Commissioner in the State of California which prohibit discrimination and retaliation include discrimination or retaliation for threatening to file a complaint with the Labor Commissioner, for taking time off to serve as a juror, be a witness in court or to attend judicial proceedings related to being a victim of a crime or related to a victim, for discharging victims of domestic violence, for taking time off to seek medical or psychological treatment related to domestic violence or a sexual assault, for taking time off to go to a child’s school at the request of a teacher, for disclosing his or her wages, for engaging in political activity, for being a whistle blower (not the real whistles), for being paid less than employees of a different sex for the same work unless based on a bona fide factor other than sex, or for complaining about safety or health conditions.
For Imperial Valley Employment Lawyers such as myself who are also Women’s Rights Lawyers, when President Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 in late January, he remedied a great injustice and provided employment and women’s rights attorneys with yet another tool in our arsenal to fight for employee’s and women’s rights.
Now women in California and the rest of the nation have a law that gives them the ability to redress the wrong suffered upon them by society in allowing men to receive more money for the same work from an employer and limiting the rights of women to bring a claim for pay discrimination.
In the past, women were required to file suit within 180 days after first being paid unfairly, even if the discrimination of being paid less than male workers in the same jobs continued. And if a woman failed to discover that male workers were being paid more for the same work, a woman still could not hold her employer accountable if she didn’t learn of the unfairness and take action within 180 days of first being paid the lesser rate.
Under the Fair Pay Act of 2009 signed into law by President Obama, the statute of limitations of 180 days starts with each discriminatory paycheck, rather than when the employer starts to discriminate. So long as a woman in CA files her claim within 180 days of receiving any discriminatory paycheck, not just the first one, she is considered timely in bringing her claim.
An important aspect of the Act is that the effective date of the Act is retroactively set at May 28, 2007, which will allow it to apply to all compensation discrimination claims that have been filed on or after that date.
Women can sue for back pay awards for up to two years before she files her employment discrimination claim under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Fair Pay Act of 2009 does not change the two-year back pay limit.
Under the Act, an unlawful practice occurs when a discriminatory compensation decision or other practice is adopted, when a person becomes subject to the decision or practice, or when a person is affected by the decision or practice, including each time wages, benefits or other compensation is paid.
California also has it’s own version of the Federal WARN Act which in certain circumstances requires 60 days warning before laying off workers. Under the 2003 California version of the Act, the requirement of 60 days warning applies to establishments with 75 or more employees who have been employed for at least 6 of the previous 12 months, who layoff or relocated 50 or more employees within a 30-day period. There are also various exceptions to the rule.
For the elderly employee laid off, an important ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court has given added protection to older workers. Elderly persons who file employment discrimination lawsuits no longer need to prove that an employer acted intentionally. It is enough that the employee can prove that the layoffs had a disparate effect on the elderly workers.
Layoffs of caregivers providing care to sick family members may also violate federal law.
And all of these tools are still in addition to the tools Imperial Valley employment lawyers have against employers who practice discrimination based on sex, religion, race, age, or sexual orientation, or who subject their workers to a workplace that constitutes a hostile environment.
