New York New York

New York is officially named the City of New York and is the most populous city in the United States of America. The city is one of the worlds most important cultural centers with hundreds of world-class museums, galleries and performance venues. New York is also home of the United Nations and is one of the worlds major venues for international diplomacy

New York City is a global hub of international business and commerce and is one of three command centers for the world economy, alongside London and Tokyo. The city is a major center for finance, insurance, real estate, media and the arts in the U.S. Additional sectors include the television and film industry, second largest in the country after Hollywood; medical research and technology; non-profit institutions and universities; and fashion.
The city is comprised of five boroughs: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. The Bronx is the citys northernmost borough and the site of the Yankee Stadium. It is also the birthplace of rap and hip hop cultures. Brooklyn is the citys most populous borough and was an independent city until 1898. Brooklyn is known for its cultural diversity, independent art scene, distinct neighborhoods and unique architectural heritage. The countrys earliest amusement park, Coney Island is also here. Manhattan is the most densely populated borough and is home to most of the citys skyscrapers. The borough contains the major business and financial center of the city and attractions including Madison Square Garden. Queens is geographically the largest borough and most ethnically diverse county in the United States. The borough is mainly residential and middle class. Queens is home to Shea Stadium, home of the New York Mets. Staten Island is the most suburban of the five boroughs. Until 2001, the borough was home to the Fresh Kills Landfill, formerly the largest landfill in the world, which is now being reconstructed as one of the largest urban parks in the U.S.

Choice of grad school? Have a hard time choosing?

Hi, I recently graduated from a CUNY school with a biochem B.A. I’m looking for a job and stuck btwn law/business school. I might do a PhD but lab work is so boring. I tutored math at a high school, was an intern for a AIDS organization and was a cashier. Im having a hard time finding an entry level job so i figured i would start studying. how is the market now for lawyers/business women? i’m good at math and science and i would like a career that enables me to do so.
any advice for someone lke me out there?
should i start a small internship at a big company (if i can even get one?) or should i start grad school for a PhD.
By the way, my GPA is around 3.47
med school is out, you should see how many MDs are in new york

Well, with the economy being the way it is and jobs being hard to get, I would recommend doing an internship. It’s the easiest way to get your foot in the door with a company. The reason for this being is because a company can have someone do a job for cheap or even free as opposed to having to pay someone a salary. Then after you have worked there for a few months or maybe a semester, they will usually hire you for a full time position (if you did well). It’s easier to get a job after an internship because your employer already knows what you can do, and you’re already trained and used to working with a company as opposed to someone else who’s looking for a job. Don’t go to grad school unless you really want to, and most of them these days prefer people who have had experience in the working world. Also you need to get a masters before you get a PhD. But yea get a job in the working world so that you can find out what you like and don’t like so that then if you decide to go back to school, you’ll know what you’d like your concentration to be.

Ok so I live in New York City and I work security. It is the most boring job that I have ever had. You stand around or sit around and so nothing for some hours on end. I’m in college for Criminal Justice at John Jay and in the future I want to work in corrections or as a detective. So my question is, what can I do for work while I’m in college? I want something that can somehow relate to law/enforcement/counseling or anything relative to my major. Working at the Gap or as a waitress for instance isn’t really getting me relative experience if you understand what I mean. I just want something not as boring as security. Any ideas please give them to me. Thanks alot in advance.

It may be tough with out having finished your degree/certification to get a job in these fields. However, there are many jobs that may start out as internships and end up in paid positions. Does your school post possible internships or volunteer positions?

Boys and Girls Club, Samaratins, shelters for the homeless are always in need of people. Some positions are paid, others volunteer. All will give you great experience that is relevant to your future career. You may be able to get trained as a dispatcher for an ambulance service, fire station or police station, but I am not sure of the qualifications. Its worth asking though!

Debt Consolidation New York – Debt Consolidation in New York is Available to Small Businesses

Debt consolidation in New York is a procedure that gives new life to many enterprises, and involves finding the right consultant who is knowledgeable about this special place and its unique laws. When you seek out advice regarding financial obligations, make certain that the counselors know all of the available options.

Many people come to New York to be in a place that allows them to act upon the full range of their vision. They are enterprising people who like to be masters of their own fate and seek to develop their own businesses in order to work for themselves and be their own bosses. They feel that this independent approach will reap them a larger share portion of their efforts and a larger income.

But this is also a highly competitive environment. What happens when the venture begins to turn? What happens when the cash flow coming in is not equal to the disbursements that are required to make payments for necessities such as taxes, rents and loans that were compiled in the course of starting up? How does an owner begin to deal with the financial obligations that are accumulating daily?

Loans and other financial obligations are a necessary part of starting up a business. However, when they begin to get out of hand and far exceed the accounts receivable, it is time to seek debt relief advice. Debt settlement is a good option because it assembles all of the obligations into one account that requires just one affordable monthly payment. It is a means to reduce the amount of monthly payments and to improve the credit rating at the same time. This is accomplished by a skilled consultant who negotiates with all of the creditors involved to accept smaller monthly payments at a lower interest rate so that an affordable payment can be made. This plan assures creditors that payments will continue and protects the debtor from constant demands for payment. Also, since the payments are made on time and there are no delinquent payments, the credit rating begins to improve and return to its previous good standing.

Business debt settlement brings all of the financial obligations into a single account, which then allows the scheduling of a single monthly repayment. This is accomplished after negotiation between the consultant, the business owner and the creditors. Counseling is the best way to get information regarding how to use a debt settlement program in the New York area to get on top of your financial obligations and repay them quickly. Often business debt counselors are able to negotiate that the consolidation repayment plan is 100% interest free. With the interest lowered, repayment of the consolidated principle can proceed quickly, allowing the owner to get back to the job of growing his or her business.

Debt settlement is a preferred method for rescheduling the business debt into a manageable amount that can be paid off, not canceled.

This has helped many businesses to become stable which serves the community as well. It is in the interest of both the owner and the various creditors to seek a resolution. With the help of a qualified business debt management professional a resolution can be reached that will satisfy all of the creditors while allowing the small business to continue to operate and offer its services in New York.

I am an attorney in New York City who cannot find a good job. Can anyone help me?

I don’t expect someone to hand me a job on a silver platter but good ideas would be appreciated.

I graduated from a top school but it was out of state and thus non-existent to New York lawyers. I had average grades and awards for public service. My school’s CSO is useless, can only find jobs in St. Louis, and has not heard of New York City.

I’ve been working as a temp lawyer for several years to pay the bills but now I feel I’ve been labeled as a “Temp” and thus untouchable. The work provides no marketable experience.

I’m not looking to be a big firm associate or an ADA. I know that’s not likely. I don’t expect to get 100 grand a year.
I want a job that allows me to pay my student loans and rent. If I have to I’ll try to declare bankruptcy for as much of my other debt as I can. I want to get a job that teaches me something or, in other words, invests in me.

I volunteered for two years during law school in SSD.

I have no connections in New York. Any ideas?

Are you passionate about practicing law or do you just want to utilize your law degree????

I went to a Tier 4 law school and graduated with average/marginal grades but have been steadily employed (making great money too!!!) since graduation.

I am a licensed attorney and live in the Pacific Northwest. However, I decided that I really didn’t want to practice law (at least traditionally) so I applied to companies wanting someone with a legal background for various positions. Currently, I am a Contracts Administrator with a large hi tech company and it rocks. No billable hours or weekend work. I have it pretty good right now. It isn’t very fulfilling dealing with contracts, BUT with 1-3 years experience I can move up. A JD plus BAR license plus corporate experience is golden. And since I have no desire to ever set foot in a firm….my plan is working out quite well.

What I suggest is that you consider a non-traditional career path with your law degree. Maybe you are not “marketable” to firms, but you are certainly marketable to a corporation. I had 2-3 years of various legal experience (including temp work) and was chosen over 15 candidates because I have the JD plus BAR. The company considered ALL of my experience (temp, short-term, schooling, law clinic and so on).

Here are some hot fields for attorneys seeking non traidtional work: real estate, zoning specialists, wireless industry, compliance, HR, sales, executive positions, contracts, and public relations. I just searched for a job as a Contracts Manager and came up with my current job using Monster.com. While contract work is NOT my destiny…I can certainly pay my bills while gaining experience that is indeed “marketable.”

Good luck!!!!!

p.s. I haven’t made below 65K (make well above it now) since going the corporate route.

p.s.s You may have to expand your search nationwide. However, the more flexible you are the better. I cannot imagine not being able to find work in NYC though. They have a TON of compliance jobs (50K -200K).

You should be able to practice law in any state. You won’t learn a whole lot of state-specific law in law school, unless you take a class specifically on Alabama law. Such a class might be offered as an elective, covering a topic like Alabama civil procedure, for example. Otherwise, you won’t have any more trouble practicing law in California as you would if you were to stay in Alabama.

Private company party with a cash bar, is employer liable if an employee is over served and causes an accident
under georgia state law The simple answer is sure. Anyone can sue anyone else for anything at any time. Whether or not they can win the case is something else entirely. It depends a great deal on the employee.

Do you have to have your parents permission to get emacipated?
No, but it helps.
What is the Eerie Doctrine?
Having a difficult time understanding it. here it is down and dirty: for state actions in diversity, that take place in fed court: substantive issues are decided by state law, not federal. the state law that governs is the state where the cause of action arose. procedural issues are decided on federal law. got.

The government requires it.

An Overview Of New York Law Schools

The state of New York offers a large selection of reputable law schools, with nearly two dozens in the ranks, from the renowned Columbia School of Law to the more affordable state university. Following is a brief alphabetical overview of some of the possibilities.

Located in the state capital, Albany Law School was founded in 1851 and is the nation’s oldest independent law school. The school is located near the Court of Appeals and other government agencies affording the student with vast opportunities such as internships and the ability to see law in action is a wonderful supplement to the extensive classroom training. The cost of tuition for the 2008-2009 academic year is $38,900.

The Brooklyn Law School first opened their doors in 1901. Back then, the school was located in the basement of a business school on Ryerson Street. That first year saw thirteen first year students and five-second year students pass though their doors.

The school was known from the start as an equal opportunity educational facilities blind to race or ethnic background, welcoming African-American students as early as 1909. In the heart of Brooklyn, the law school is in the very beat of the world’s cultural and legal center of the world. Tuition for the 2008-2009 academic year is listed as $42,350. For more information please go to their website.

Originally founded in 1754 under the name of King’s College, what is now known as Columbia University was founded in 1754 as King’s College. After a brief respite during the Revolution the school reopened in 1784 under its present name of Columbia. The law school offers a diverse choice of studies with many focused courses available, such as business law, environmental law and the lesser available courses like gender studies and clinics in action.

The law school list’s its current tuition at $44,124 for the full academic year. For more detailed information you can visit their website.

Cornell University does not hold the distinction of a top ten law school but it does offer an outstanding education facility that limits its enrollment to a maximum of 180 students per year. This is less than a third of what are accepted into Harvard and afford each student a highly personalized education.

Cornell Law admitted its first class of, mainly male, law students in 1887 and offered a new age from of teaching, with clerk-ships and on the job training at many of the legal offices in the city. Tuition is listed as $46,670.

There are many other fine choices such as New York University, Fordham University and the lesser known Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University which continues to expand and impress each year.

with a pre-law degree you can get lots of jobs in law offices. unfortuantely, you won’t get to do anything other than btch work…but you can move up easily from there.

seattle university costs about 6k+ a quarter, 3 years…so you can do the math.
