Capable Myastheniac, job in law enforcement?
Im 22 years and have had Myasthenia Gravis since I as 7. However the majority of my symptoms have been under control though medication and a thymectomy and they have been since I was a child. I run, lift wieghts, and basically normal. In fact I’m in better shape than the avergage non-mysathaneic. However,I do have the sleepy looking eyes sometimes. I am interested in becoming a sheriff. I am more than confident that i would meet the academy requiremnts becuase I do the same physical things on my own. Do I have a chance of becoming a sheriif or detention court faculty sherrif or any other type of law enforcemnt agnt for that matter? I have a degree in political science and eventually want to work in Federal law enforcement.
It depends on the severity… with the major symptoms of Myasthenia Gravis being muscle weakness and fatigue, you don’t want to risk your life or the life of others by having a flare up at the wrong time. Also, if your condition is triggered or worsened by stress and/or a lack of sleep, law enforcement probably isn’t your best choice. Have you thought about other forms of civil service such as crime scene investigation, etc? Good luck!
