In the state of Louisiana, is it legal for a non-attorney to prepare legal documents for a person?

I know that a non-attorney can not give legal advice, but what exactly constitutes “legal advice”? Specifically, would the preparation of the legal documents with instructions on how to file them and proceed in court,if needed, be considered as unlicensed practice of law? Do you have to be certified in this state to be a Legal Document Preparer, or is there even such a thing? Any answers, information or websites that I can research would be helpful. Thank you all in advance! icon smile legal attorney

i guess it would depend on what documents you’re talking about. Deeds, mortgages, promissory notes, contracts don’t have to be prepared by a lawyer, but it’s always a good idea. If you’re talking about filing a complaint, answer, motions etc. you can always go pro se (represent yourself) and how would anyone know someone was helping you.

i’m sorry, i just reread your questions, I’m in OH not LA….sorry icon sad legal attorney
