texas child custody laws?

I have a 3 year old son and his father has been trying to control my life ever since he was born. I am getting married next month and would like to move to West Virgina but every time I say something to his father he says that he will take him away from me. I need to know what would be the best way to go about being able to move. Should I go for full custody?
